When the Thrush Knocks
“Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin’s Day will shine upon the key-hole.”
-J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
I’ve always loved the role that the thrush plays in the Hobbit, and I’ve been looking for a good way to incorporate all the related symbolism into one art piece. When the movies came out, the portrayal of the dwarf Dwalin as a tough, tattooed badass got me wondering what other tattoos he might have. If I were him, the thrush would be top of my list.
If you’d like to see this on a shirt, please vote for it over at Threadless. Thanks!
